Many of us may have had a rough school year last year, or a rough summer and we are looking to the future as a fresh start. But what we may fail to realize is that most fresh starts aren’t starts at all. There is no fresh start outside of the gospel.

This is true for Christians as well.
Hebrews 10:19-25 -
“And so, dear brothers and sisters, we can boldly enter heaven’s Most Holy Place because of the blood of Jesus. By his death, Jesus opened a new and life-giving way through the curtain into the Most Holy Place. And since we have a great High Priest who rules over God’s house, let us go right into the presence of God with sincere hearts fully trusting him. For our guilty consciences have been sprinkled with Christ’s blood to make us clean, and our bodies have been washed with pure water. Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works. And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.”
The Gospel is God’s good news for us. The news that he stepped in for us and took the punishment for our bad news: being born sinful. We sin, and sinning makes us an enemy of God, who is a holy being. God’s holiness would consume us if we were in his presence. So, he sent his Son to be consumed for us. If we accept that gift, then God is no longer a threat to us.
In Greek, there are three words for “new.” New as in “time,” as in “type,” and as in “fresh.”

Christ died in our place so that we could have a Fresh Start with God. The sacrifice of Christ never loses power, meaning, or steam. We are now God’s beloved sons and daughters.
Hebrews 10:19-25 tells us to do three things. Draw near to God, hold fast to our faith, and provoke one another to do great things for God. This is what we need to do to have a fresh start with God.
There is no fresh start outside of the gospel.
